Satellite Box

Are there any Xitron users with a Satellite Box (slave unit) on their Xitron system? I am looking at getting a new server since my current box is 3 years old and I know there are newer faster machines out there. The technical firm that helps us with our workflow is proposing a new machine with a satellite computer for speed. The way it works is the master computer is able to delegate certain tasks to the slave unit which is supposed to speed the process up. It's kind of spendy though.

I would love some feedback on how much more performance you get out of this kind of system, if anyone has experience with it.

Thanks

I guess it kind depends what kind of work/how much work, output devices /workflows you are using.

If your outputting to multiple devices, doing ROOM proofing and doing several processes at once and finding you are waiting for the workflow to keep up, then many be time to upgrade to a slave system,

Rather than adding a slave, maybe worth, just upgrading the server unit, evaluate and then maybe go for a new slave

Thanks hagar. That's kind of what I was leaning toward. We have a couple of web presses and a couple of sheetfeds. I run between 100 - 150 plates a day on average but it's still off one platesetter and we keep up fairly well with it. I just got a proposal for a dual, dual core (quad) server with a terabyte of HD space, so I'm going to do what you are suggesting and run the new machine for a while by it's self. Maybe I'll get the slave unit if we purchase another platesetter.

Thanks again for the input!

heehee... I got to say "terabyte"
