Windows XP Pro SP2 with HASP & EFI Dongles

A bit of advice for anyone taking the plunge into using XP Pro (God give you strength) for a Pre-Press Proofing or Workflow server.

Install all software and dongle drivers under a different service pack than 2. It looks like once installed, an upgrade to SP 2 will work.

If not, so far, you will KILL the dongles.

I would be extremly careful running SP2 I run a win2k server, but I have XP pro on all of my other machines. SP2 causes alot of networking problems, and I would research this as much as possible. I would reccomened going to Win2k or Server 2003.

For what it's worth, I agree with rhctp, at least where I have experience.
We run a Win2k server, and it gives us no problems at all. We need to
reboot about once a month, and half the time it's just because we haven't
done it in a while. It's a very stable environment for what we use it for
(file transfer and serving out 4 printers). We run pcmac lan on an old
Compaq Proliant RAID. It's a really solid setup for a light industrial shop.

This isn't posted to promote a switch to XP by any means. It is to warn that when the manufacturers like EFI, and others go to XP, away from Win 2K, you won't have a choice. When that happens, beware!

They will never promote XP as a server based OS that is why there is MS Server 2003.
