Cataloguing Software

Does anyone know of a good cheap/free program or way of cataloguing archived cds/dvds? I used to use a program called Findit but it was an 0S9 app. After burning a disk, I could launch the program and tell it to catalogue the disk. This would then enable me to search all archived disks without loading them.

try one of these.... Search - VersionTracker

I'm using Illumination currently. It's rather slow, but does have a nice web server option. My staff can search the DB of discs from any computer on the LAN. As long as the application is running.
It does catalog pretty fast, but the search function seems a little on the slow side.

Cheers
Vee

We use 'CD Finder'. Works a treat. Indexing a CD takes about a minute, [I'm slow]. I've found the Disk Number of obscure EPSs in seconds. The 'Find' function is really quick. I'm currently considering copying the Disk archive to store off-site, working backwards.
Main thing is to burn a disk of the index and update it regularly.

well for my old cd/dvd archive i'm using findit as well!

since our archiving is now done to offline server (backed up on tape daily by I.T.), and no more cd's/dvd's, i now just punch in details of jobs in a simple exel database which everyone can use and searching is simple - the same as findit almost - and thats pretty simple

I've used this for years. The interface is a little clunky, but it works well

Just to cover a point in Berrmonsters post. We Back Up daily to tape and still Archive to DVD

I use cd finder, too. all of my prepress files are on one server, the art dept files are on another. We can switch back and forth to search either. Good program...
