Attention Preps users
I stumbled onto this a few months ago and thought I'd share it. When I figured this out, I imagined how Alexander Fleming must have felt when he discovered penicilin. I know this isn't going to save the world, but hopefully it will save someone alot of time and frustration figuring out why a job is failing.
OK here it goes:
If you import more than one Indesign postscript file into Preps, it will fail at a Harlequin RIP.
Also, if you insert a blank page in between other pages it will fail. For example, You have a file for a cover that includes the front cover, inside front cover and back cover. When imposing in Preps, you have to insert a blank page for the inside back because nothing prints on it. This will fail at the RIP.
I think the error is Offending Command: AGM Utilities
I get around this by one of two ways.
1.Distilling the .ps files and import the PDFs into Preps. To the best of my knowledge, Distilling a trapped .ps will not affect the trapping. I have had no problems with this yet.
2.You can also use Indesign's book feature to create one .ps from multiple Indesign files. This may not be the best option if you have documents that are different sizes.
I have tried this with Preps 4.2, 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 and Harlequin 5.5 and 6.2 in two different print shops with the same results.
