Font Identifier

I am looking for a good Font Identifer software. I Tried Font Expert's Demo, but I did not lik eit and thought it to be limiting.

Does anyone know of other identifers out there?

Thanks.

This seems to be a guess the font site, more than a comparision utility that looks at teh font characterisitics. Not bad though, I will bookmark it.

I really miss my old font identifier which was an actual person. The art director from one of the agencies who was spot on every time. I would send a jpg or whatever and get a reply straight back even to the extent of whether it was condensed extended etc....

I've still got one of these..!
She been type-setting/paste-up/prepress for 15+ years.
I walk over to her desk show her the font.... and in about 2 seconds she nails it every time. Very nice to have her on our team.

don't forget ARIAL. And use the quark palette (at the bottom) to stylize it like: Arial Bold, Italic, underlined with a shadow. Wreaks havoc on the kerning and also the rip but what the hell. That's why they pay us the big bucks, to fix up these messes. I'd also add a touch of "microsoft Wingdings2" for flavour. Don't get confused with the regular wingdings....wingdings2 is a far better product.

I thought Quark would get rid of the character pallet crap in version 5. Now we're at version 7 and that F*&ing thing is still there.

WHY???????????????????????

Not defending Quack but there is no problem in using that pallet as long as you really have the font attributes you apply. A quick look in Utillities/Fonts, with the box in the lower left hand side checked will reveal the font that will rip.

Most of the time I use WhatTheFont, but if that doesn't work and I'm feeling patient, I will also use http://www.identifont.com/ which works by asking a series of questions used to narrow down the font based on certain letter characteristics.
