Meh, I said all I wanted. I hope this post helps other people in my situation. I do a few spot color layouts in InDesign daily and I always use Microsoft's collection because its free and easy to search. I have 12cd package too but I'm too lazy to open it sometimes.

I don't like opening WMF in Illustrator because a lot of the time it opens incorrectly, it sort of opens not in proportion. Pasting in a Microsoft app, then to Illustrator, is always done without error.

Everyone's got their own way of doing things. For example Joe would rather rasterize the image than find another solution. Or he'd print to PDF from Publisher rather than copy/paste to Illustrator, but whatever, its all the same to me.

Keep flaming guys, you're doing a great job. I'm hoping InDesign CS3 includes this as a feature.

If any of you would like to try this yourself, here is a link for a sample file. It was WMF but I saved as AI for your convenience.

says volumes about you. Clip art isnt really for commercial use. Have you ever read the fine print to the CD's or Microsoft's library? I'd almost be willing to bet you are infringing copyright on a daily basis.

If you want a WMF go to microsoft's clipart site, get anything you want there.

Where do I find clipart for commercial use?

No, I would NOT RATHER rasterize it but it's an option and at 2400 dpi you will never know the difference. You were asking for one click recoloring in InDesign and you didn't want to sacrifice quality. That would work for you in that case.

Me personally I have one customer that sends me PageMaker docs with WMF files embedded and they don't send me the actual WMF files. You can't export them at high res out of PM so I copy and then paste into Illustrator and save out as EPS. If I only had a few of these WMF files and they had a lot of different tints that needed to be a percentage of a spot color I'd use the method above. One click coloring them in PM and I'm done with them. I wouldn't do it if I had large graphics or a lot of small ones. The ones I use almost always need to be grayscale so I paste them into Illy, select all, convert to gray, save as EPS then update the links in PM. All done and with high res vector files that will actually print.

Why do you even bother asking if you have it all figured out to begin with?

I know what you really need:

When I checked out sean.notamused.org I got this:

"click HERE for pics of me naked"

No kidding. Seriously Sauce, we are also not amused with your anal methods and snobbish lambasting. I do recall you saying recently you're pretty new to the biz - lots of us have been here much longer and with certain tasks there actually is NO EASY BUTTON as mentioned above. It's like the customers who think we just "push a button" and create a full color, professional brochure in five minutes.

Now stop complaining about shitty files - that's how we all keep our jobs. Read what we are telling you, do it, and accept it. And go to the bar for a drink or four.
