Facing Pages In InDesign
I know that alot of you may already know this, but I'm just hoping that one freaking designer will see this and learn how to use it.
I'm tired of seeing an 18 page document for a 16 page file where the designer puts a text box on the first and last page where it says "Do not print this page, I couldn't delete it".
To get rid of those annoying single pages when the document is set up with facing pages, display the "pages" pallette and click on page 2, hold down shift and select the last page, which in this instance is page 17 (you now just selected all of those pages). Under the menu options for the "pages" pallette, select the option to "Keep Spreads Together". You will now notice on the "pages" menu that the spreads have a little brackets around them.
Now you can delete pages 1 and 18, leaving your document with 16 pages in tact and pages won't be moved and you will have a nice little document. All you did was just delete the blank pages and you are keeping all of the other pages/crossovers/folios and stuff in the same order.
You don't have to do it this way, but some designers like to see the Back Cover and Front Cover as the first 2 pages in the document and using this method allows you to do that.
Just my own little tip and if it helps one designer, then God Bless You for learning and using this.

I had a client call me up last month and ask my opinion on a job that he had printed at a web shop. My client explained that when he got the final printed piece that the entire book was one page off in sequence.
Knowing this client and how they set up their files (with the extra page at the front of the document that isn't supposed to print), I explained this to him and he freaked out.
Apparently they never saw a hard copy proof and OK'd everything via soft proof PDF.
OOOPS.
Not to make another story, but how in the hell does a printer print a blank front cover on a book where the cover says "Do not print this page"?

Well, they saw a soft proof with that page on it too, right?
The printer's prepress would have to have a big case of the
IDon'tGiveAShits, or they don't speak English.
That's too funny, Joe.

Yes, I guess the soft proof had the page on it. I never did see the finished printed sample, but that was how it was described to me from the client when he called asking how something like this could happen.
I never thought to ask if the printer spoke English. That would make sense. In fact, that is the only way it would make sense.
I can see the printer making an statement "It was in the file", but then again, I've seen weirder stuff printed.

or maybe the printer was so highly automated, that there was no human intervention to say, take this page out.... just a thought.. that's a funny story Joe..
