I'm going to Quote this method for those that like to play with pictures in text (InDesgin CS & CS2) but still want to be able to edit the text 8O Impossible you say...NOT, just listen. I'm going to eliminate the photos well, because I forgot to scan them before I came home..

ops:
So here it is. (please forgive any typos I can't type worth crap.
1.
READY THE TEXT FRAME
On top of one or more background pictures draw a text frame and place text into it. Choose a Bold or Black typeface so that the image will be visible through it. The trick here is that the text frame must completely cover the picture frame (ed: I tried this and was able to move the frame off the pictures and it still worked)
2.
FILL WITH WHITE
Fill the text frame with [Paper] swatch. You shouldn't be able to see the images anymore. Make sure you add some text inset (cmnd+b) on all four sides so that the text sits inside the white area.
3.
SET THE TEXT COLOR
While the text frame is selected, color all the text with [Register] color swatch (its probably one of the very few time you ever want to use this color).
4.
SET THE BLENDING MODE
Finally in the Transparency palette, apply the "Lighten" blending mode to the text frame. Because paper is the lightest color, it always knocks out the image below it, The Registration color is the darkest color in InDesign, so in this mode it always becomes fully transparent. The Image shows thorugh the text: jog done! 8)
Maybe tomorrow when my fingers aren't so beat I'll copy the way you can make the text dissapear progressively like in a gradient
Have fun
