number raffle tickets

My boss says that people out there are numbering raffle tickets and other jobs on copiers using indesign. i cant figure out a way to number except for it being the same number as the page number. is there some kinda way to number that i am not using.
any help would be greatly appreciated as to how people are number raffle tickets and other jobs.

I'll be watching the answers you get. I've had to use Word for past projects and would like to switch to Indesign.

I haven't found anything for Indesign yet, but I did find this.

EDIT:
Hold the presses, I found this for Indesign.

For numbering tickets what I usually do is convert the InDesign layout to a pdf and then send it to the form store on our Canon Imagerunner 8500 (most Canons I've used have this feature even the color copiers). I then have a template in Publisher that I pull in numbers from a comma seperated file that I make in Excel using the mail merge feature. I then print this to the Canon and have it use the pdf layout I had saved in the form store.

It works good and prints really fast since the layout is stored on the rip and all I'm doing is sending numbers to populate the form. But it is a bit of a hassle to set up.

I tried using DataMerge in Indy but for longer runs over 500 numbers it takes forever.

I stumbled across this: http://www.mts.net/~gbeggs1/EasyNumbering/ which sounds pretty interesting. And best of all I wouldn't have to go to the Microsoft ghetto to do numbering.

Cheers
