Font translation/mapping . . .

. . . from Mac to Windows & vice versa.
Does anyone else use TransType from Pyrus? It does a great job (TT>TT or PS>PS mainly; will do TT>PS or PS>TT) for what I need, although there are some characters that get dropped occasionally. I was reading a post(s) on another forum re: apostrophes, etc. being "lost" in Arial (or Times) & thought of this utility "providing" the same excitement.
There are a ton of bells 'n whistles* in TransType (settings, prefs, what-not) that I'm unfamiliar with that may alleviate the dropped characters (hyphens, quotes, etc.) issue. If anyone can simplify the "tech manual" based on personal experience, it would be appreciated.
*each font instance as its own suitcase or not, hinting, naming conventions (font name or font menu name, or ? ) . . .

TransType is now owned by FontLabs http://www.fontlabs.com.
They also purchased Fontagrapher from Macromedia.

I am not sure about how to fix your problem but you might find something at their website.

I've been using TransType for a couple years now. It's saved me more times that I can count.

The app's great at converting formats, re-encoding problem fonts, generating screen fonts if you've only got printer fonts. The latest version also has OTF support (although I haven't tried converting INTO OTF, just out of it).

TransType is definately something I'd recommend trying, assuming you've exhausted all mundane options. Regarding the "tech" side of things, I've never had to adjust a preference. Default options work well.

Some fonts, however, are just corrupt and need to be replaced.
