Screen Imagesetter

We have a computer to film set-up and use a Katana 5055 Imagesetter in the darkroom. Upon turning the imagesetter on in the morning, I got a error message saying "Machine error 30". Upon checking the book, this means "Initial communication after engaging the power supply failed." I have checked the fuses on the circuit boards and the tranformers and they all seem to be fine. I unhooked the harddrives, per our St. Louis' tech request, to see if maybe there was a glitch there and it still gave me the same message. It won't get past the first stage of the "Initializing" part.......only Initializes to one dot and then gives that message. We've been without this machine for about a week and a half and I'm out of ideas. Can anyone out there help me, the only other option is to have the tech guy come look at it. He's 3 hours away and I'm sure his minimum bill will be $1500. Thanks ahead of time for any help!!!!

hi

i had a katana for 3 years and never saw that

in the manual it should list some kind of solution - see what it says

it does sound like an engineer problem though - the cost of not having the machine working will soon outweigh the cost of having it fixed - i'd say get an engineer on it asap.

best of luck

Hi PMCarol,
Check for the connectivity from the RIP Station to the Katana...
Clean the terminals of the cards if necessary and then fix it again.
check for the Card inside the RIP station...hit it hard with a hammer once if you wana confirm
shut both down and turn on the katana First and then the PC..

CHeers

I had an imagesetter with that problem once, different unit but similar problem. Turned out the SCSI card was toast.

Confirm trying all of the above. Had one [second hand] for 3 years. [Almost] bullet-proof. Sounds like the SCSI-card mighta scuzzed itself, though. Don't rule out the terminal clean-up. Eliminate the simple stuff 1st.
One thing you may want to do is make sure the tech has the correct wide-SCSI board IN HIS VAN when he comes out. Nothing worse than suppressing the urge to throttle a tech for saying: "looks like the SCSI card...I'll order one in and see you next Wednesday...if it's in". You can be up for assault.
Another alternative is to see if anyone's surplussing a 5055, or has pushed it into a corner of the press-room to make way for that nice new CTP. I kept 2 Eskofot 295DLs alive for 2 years on cannibalised parts.

Machine error 30 is basically a communication problem , If there is any problem with Hard disk you can get this error as well you can check communication between Katana and Online Proceessor.
