24 page PDF doc producing single page

Hi,

I sent a 24 page PDF file to Trueflow 2.2 and when I viewed it it showed that the fonts were not embedded (but all 12 spread files showed). So I took the file into Acrobat 6.0 Pro and printed it to a file to create a new embedded PDF.

When I sent this file to Trueflow, instead of getting 12 spresds in the 'Output' folder I only got one (pages 13 and 14). I used the same procedure as I did before.

Any ideas where I went wrong?

Also I created an 'Output Template' to convert the file to a TIFF format to output to an Indigo Press and got the same single page result.

(PowerMac G5 1.5GB, Panther 10.3.3, Acrobat Pro 6.0)

I tested the procedure using one of the TF007Users.pdf file from the TF CD and got the same result.

TIA
Chris

Chris,
I would have several questions on this one. To me it looks like a file problem.

How was the 24 page PDF created?
Is it from Acrobat Distiller, from an Application(QXP, InDesign, etc.) or from a workflow(like Prinergy)? You can check this by going to document info and looking at the creator.

You said you viewed it and it showed the fonts were not embedded. What file did you view? How did you view it? Were you checking the font information from the File Information sub-menu of the Job menu?

You also said you opened the job using Acr6 and then reprinted to embed the fonts. Did you try distilling this PS to see how many pages you had in the resulting PS?

About the PDF file

Hi Greg,

The client is using the PDF file from TF CD-Manuals 'TFV210TF007Users.pdf' and the Creator says - Not Available. They would like to impose the file and send it to their Indigo press as a test of the TF system. The idea is to proof jobs to the Indigo press before sending it to plate.

The font information is being checked within Acrobat before the file is sent to TF and also in the Submenu of the Job menu after it is sent to TF. This is a sanario that could happen with client files.

Appreciate the help

Chris

Hi Chris,
I checked the TFV210TF007Users.pdf file. It shows up as coming from Microsoft Word and being produced by Adobe PDF Writer 4.05. Could something be wrong with your file? All fonts were embedded, at least according to Acrobat.

Anyway, from the info, it sounds like you are creating 12 signatures with two pages each(or 6 sigs, two pages front, two pages back). Could it be a naming problem? In other words, are you overwriting the PDFs you are creating because you are continuously using the same name for the output PDF name? That's just a guess.

For an Indigo, I would try either an OutlinePDF or OutlinePS(composite) output if the files must be imposed. Both of these outputs could produce imposed output with fonts sent as vector data(similar to outlining fonts in Illustrator), so fonts there are actually no fonts. An OutlinePDf file should have the creator as DS OutlinePDF library, I think. If the Indigo could do the imposition and if I had the native data, I would simply use a PDF produced from the PDF Polisher Hot Folder(Trueflow's internal Distiller). I would not try to use the RIPedPDF(or ratserized PDF, as this file is typically difficult for any RIP to handle.

Hope that helps,
Greg
