help... my registration marks are coming out only black.
I am having trouble with Trueflow. I have a pdf(generated by quark) of my layout.> registration and trim marks are definately marked as "Registration" for color(can be double checked in Acrobat seperations preview.) BUT THEN> when taken to trueflow and dropped into impo as a 1up, and trueflow generates "ripped pdf", the registration marks go to just black and RIP Viewer confirms it is only black, and come out only on the black plate. Any suggestions would be helpful.

It sounds like True Flow has a setting to remove Registration colors and replace with Black.

Yea Ive been looking and there is a setting to make ALL black 100K, I just need to do a few more tests because I haven't found the right outcome yet. When I have it checked it makes all 100k but "even my marks"? So then when unchecked it leaves blacks alone, and if there happens to be four color black type it stays four color black type. So I have to make sure and change it with pitstop first. But sometimes I get pdf's that are completely flattened and I cannot select the type, so it would be better to have it checked because trueflow WILL correct the type. Pressman already said he'd rather have the type be 100k and lose the marks, so I've checked that end to see his preference. Now I just need a way in trueflow to have it make all black 100k except my marks.
BTW> this is only an issue when I have built a layout with either quark or Indesign and send a 1up pdf to trueflow. But I have to do it that way because of some of the complex gang runs we do, are not really feasible with Flatworker. I don't know that there is a way,..... because it makes sense that the rip sees my marks in the 1up as part of the image needing to be converted to 100k. If anyone is using Flatworker and knows they can build templetes with different final trim sized pieces on it will you let me know. I don't think you can.... thanks guys.

With your setting of "Make all Black 100%". What do you do when you have Rich Black and the customer wants it to that way?

I would have to have setting "unchecked" and make sure all blk type needing to be 100k was that way before the file hit trueflow.

Screen has what they call a "Dutch Cutting" upgrade for Flatworker that allows you to do ganging. If you do enough ganging to justify the $$$$, it might be worth looking into.
Where exactly is the 100%K setting you are refering to? I want to see how I have it set.

In trueflow, with your HF & Ticket window showing, deactivate one of your HF's and hit edit, then double click your RIP for recorder icon and options will open, then go to color management in the list on the left, you'll have to activate color management to check or uncheck the "keep black 100% after conversion" box.
from what I can tell this setting changes the outcome of the plates, even if you make the change to that box and then again deactivate color management... go figure

Hmmm...I have that checked in mine, with color management off. I run rich blacks all the time with no problems.
I just made a test file made in Quark with registration as the color. I ran it with color management on and off. Both times I had "keep black 100% after conversion" checked. The color made it onto all 4 plates each time.
If you are seeing it as black only in the RIP viewer, then it happened up stream from the RIP for Recorder module.

I had another thought. The Input module has a section called Spot Color Filter. If you set up a filter to remap the color "All" (aka registration) to black, it dumps the other 3 colors.

you are right it is happening upstream, from there, but not sure where...
it may be the same color management setting in the Ripped PDF options instead of the Rip for Recorder options.... I'll have to test, thanks ben_.
