Thanks guys. Yeap. I went back into work monday and I was told that the director of operations felt as though they were a bit heavy handed. they realize that people make mistakes and that I probably should have had more than one person look at the job.

As fas as my new manager goes, he's still an idiot. The workflow is just completely flawed. I have tried suggesting a new approach, but get shot down all the time. Hell, he even argues with his own opinions and doesnt even realize it half the time.

I have an interview tomorrow. My old employer is looking for another person. They think I may be a good fit for something new. I will find out the details tomorrow. I have been told that the position may not be open for a few months, but if I just hang in there....

Looks like my currnt employer may have a wake up call coming....

Or not....

My Friend!

I'd give you a big hug if I could, but you are not an idiot. I work in a place as prepress manager. I feed three presses, do the design work, do the plating and manage the work flow. I'm solely responsible for all jobs from when it leaves the sales department to when it gets onto the press. I make mistakes.

This problem is with the organization. They are trying to go hardest, fastest first & now with absolutely no regard for accuracy. They are running on a bad paradigm. Your manager needs to get his ass kicked too. Writing down your every mistake is the wrong way to go. Pure crisis management never works.

I just think you are so stressed and micromanaged you CAN'T do a good job. My company hates to wait, but sometimes, they just have to. It's the nature of it. Prepress will always be the bottleneck of production. If it's possible, try to make a push to get accurate plates and at least 3 to 5 days ahead of the presses so you can slow down. I mean, it's not realistic, but it's a good goal to shoot for.

I know how you feel man. I have the same situation here. Only, my manager runs the print department and use to be a pressman. So, not only does he have no professional training, but also as no knowledge of prepress.

I thought that by developing my own systems and policies it would advert any faults, and provide structure to an environment much like yours.

WELL I WAS NAIVE I suppose. The policies/procedures were never followed, and it's still a mess. Needless to say, I'm opening myself to new opportunities right now.

Yeah, I'm the only prepress person here. So, it's a real pain.
