invisible file appears after creating new folder?

sometimes after unstuffing a .sitx file only a folder/file or two will appear, when i create a new folder in the that folder all of the files stuffed will show up...wtf?

i have had this issue from time to time with clients and today uploaded a file to a clients ftp site. they insisted that it didn't show up.

i asked them to create a new folder on their ftp site and poof, there it was...any ideas what causes this?

What's the OS you're using? I see it occasionally where I'm at now. Close the window and open the window and amazingly there it is.

In a related thing, sometimes when I distill a pdf to my desktop the pdf won't appear until I quit Distiller but will show in a finder window. Using a G4 and running last Panther. Don't get it on my Tiger machine at home...

I agree. Panther is notorious for slow finder updates. Files from Acrobat and unstuffed/unzipped.

I also had considerable frustration with Apple Mail in Panther. I would grab something from the net or an ftp site or disk, copy it to a destination and would ultimately have to quit and restart the mail client to get the file to appear in the attachment browse window.

So far, no problems with Tiger.

Tiger is just as bad if not worse with the Finder window updates. I remember the good old days of OS 9 that all folders updated continually. It's amazing they are up to 10.4.10 and have still not fixed this.

I can't remember it happening in Tiger at all on my Intel Mac. I have often thought that the Finder could do with a 'refresh button', though I think that's a little klunky. Depending on how you navigate the Finder, the Forward/Back buttons can help make the display redraw

I've found that clicking on the desktop tends to update the Finder after
Distilling a file. Still not as fast as on the FeeCee, but it can help. To update
my open Finder windows faster I switch views. A quick Cmmd + 1, then a
Cmmd + 2 (or + 3 or whatever combo you want to use), will update the window.

I've tried Cmd1, Cmnd2 and don't always get the result, but yes it can work, a bit like pressing F7 in Quark 6 to get the screen to redraw.

Clicking on the desktop after distilling on the other hand, never works for me on my work machine, I have to quit Distiller.
