Old fashion friday vent.

Getting it all out before the weekend.

"End of file error" nice... thanks mr. mac

"Sheetwise or Work and turn?" our CSRs just do not know

"What is a 2 color job?" our CSRs ask daily

"What is a process job?" our CSRs ask daily

"What is the difference between the Speedmaster and the Quickmaster?" - our CSRs ask and wonder why we look at them with pain in our eyes

"Why does this spot color not match that process build?" - Owner complains about daily - but I am armed with my handy dandy spot to process guide (true story)

OH YEAH... Thanks Pantone for changing all the builds - That has really made my life so much easier. Colorbridge is sweet!

"Print EVERYTHING in 300 line screen - It is better quality" - Owner asking for a job on an uncoated sheet

"Please re-plate this, I accidentally stepped on it" thanks MR. Pressman. Why was it on the floor?

"Let's do another test" - I cannot even discuss that one

"Intel in the MAC - thank you one more time" I am glad that i still sport my good old PowerPC but I have 15 others in the shop that are Intel-based adobe crash test dummies.

"UPGRADE TIME" fun times for all...

"Server Crash" nice...

"Why is this font not embedding?"

Phone systems.

Paging system.

"CANT YOU JUST....... ????" if I hear it again - Dont you think i would have JUST.....

I think that I am JUST going to go fishing...

You can print this out and post it by your desk. It might scare some of them away.

This has actually truly cheered me up today. A slow day at the office.

It is funny because is everyone knew the whole story it would make a great pitty party.

Work is truly stressful and only due to these irritating little things. The whole story is that my house burned down to a total loss three weeks ago... Making me homeless and with nothing to my name. Me and my wife are staying at my parents... good tension with my wife and my parents. AND here is the kicker. My wife is 10 weeks pregnant and my parents do not know.

ALL of this and the only real stress that I have in my Life are all of the little things that happen at the good old Print Shop. I get away from work to relax

Before anyone says WOW... or MAN... all is truly well and a little vent on this forum helped. And it was just stuff and now we are free to make what we want.

I'm off to the fly shop to get my new waders and rod... The Fishing happens tomorrow.

Good sir, allow me to add my Friday rant (even though it is Saturday, and I'm here AT WORK AGAIN!!!)

Tuesday--the 7 jobs (with no job #s) that I sent loose Epsons on last week all come back approved. You guessed it...they ALL have to print that day! There's a show in two days! (f*ck you and your shows. Like I never heard that one before). Now, I have to organize all the files, make impos on all, color correct files because the proofs were marked "OK but take down a little red on press." Then...I have to create die files for the pieces that die cut and I have to do it NOW because the jobs will be ready for diecutting tomorrow and it takes a day to get the dies.

Wednesday--this one's good. I get a job for 34 lots of trifolds. 34!!! I'm told I have to get out proofs by end of day. Did I mention that it was 34? At least make it 37 lots so I could chuckle at the "Clerks" reference. Oh, and I'm still doing damage control from the day before. Also, we had a wicked thunderstorm here and our power got knocked out twice, the second time it did, we had three plates imaging for a job that had to deliver tomorrow. All of a sudden, I was informed that the 34 lots can go out tomorrow.

Thursday--Job rack full. 3 lots of gatefolds come in and they WON'T RIP! Put that aside, get some other stuff done. Get interrupted from getting work out to have to go back to the gatefolds that won't rip. I have to get these out today. Fudge files...loose Epsons go out on time.

Friday--My co-worker informs me that he overheard the owner telling the client that the 34 lots of gatefolds are printed. Wait. What??? I didn't even RIP them yet!!!!! I throw something across the room. Somehow, magically, that job doesn't have to print until Tuesday. I can't figure it out, either. This is the craziest, most insane shop I've ever worked at in my LIFE! Okay, load up NEW pics for the three gatefolds. Going good. Major other disasters during the day. Oh no...I HAVE to leave by 5pm, plans. Inside of gatefold WILL NOT RIP no matter what I do. Now Quark crashes continuously and I have to reinstall Suitcase because my fonts are now all corrupt in the job. Swap out fonts, but job STILL will not rip. Doesn't even show up at the rip. Sorry guys, gotta go. I guess I'll have to come in on...

Saturday--The Pressroom foreman is always proud of himself because he thinks he's God. He had arranged for the bindery to come in with me and he gave me the back door key and showed me how to disarm the alarm. Smart guy, really knows his stuff. But I don't think God would have forgotten to give me the key to the front gate so I could get into the parking lot. Back to the gatefold. Kick the mac...still won't rip. Oooh, idea! Make a Quark EPS and import that page into InDesign CS2 and rip. Boy, I'm so good that it hurts. I can get ANYTHING to rip. I pat myself on the shoulder for my genuis. File gets to rip. Crashes. Helvetica Neue family once again is killing me. It's now 8 a.m. and I am almost out of ideas to get this job to rip. (Any suggestions would be appreciated). Don't wanna stay all day because my wife and kids are going away for two days and I wanted to hang with them all day today. But the client is expecting proofs on this monster Monday morning.

I would invite anyone to top the above as this has been the worst week of my entire prepress life. This place sucks. I am now "looking."

Hmm, sounds a little like a place I worked at about 10 years ago, everything had to go that day when two days later would have been fine. Lots of unneeded pressure. I got out as soon as I could. Best of look.

If it's any consolation I had a real pig of an afternoon yesterday trying to get a job out that evening (I didn't leave the ofice until 8 pm) The ftp went over and it took well over an hour to chase through cable, reconfigure the IP address and the router. By the end of it I was pouring with seat, filthy and stressed. I've never got to the pub so quick after work in my life.

Best of luck looking

I, too, will head to the pub tonite and drink free beer and play with my band (we have a gig tonite).

I'm on Nexus 8.4 and there's a million pics and illus files in this doc so it's gonna take all day to diagnose the issue. This client sucks. The files must not have been stuffed at one point because I pulled this job from our FTP site and when I update the images in Quark they all give me the generic postscript preview. I must now narrow down the problem page by sending each page separately. I will report what actually worked.

I work p/t for a different shop on an as-needed basis. It's a sweet deal...cash off the books. The place is awesome. It's clean, pretty, there's a pond stocked with bass in the back where I can fish, and the receptionist makes coffee for me. I don't mean she just puts up a pot, she asks me how I like it and then gives me my own mug. I wouldn't be surprised if they had "Hummer Fridays" there. It's that good. The place is NEVER crazy, the owner leaves us alone and my two best friends in printing work there. Now, because of the crazy schedule here and the long hours, I'm in jeopardy of losing that p/t gig. That's the place I want to work F/T but they're not busy enough yet. Waiting...
