Thumbs down Any UK members have BT Broadband?

If so I pity you if you have had to endure the misery I have had for the last 6 days.

Despite me telling them repeatedly that there has been absolutely no configuration changes during the last six days, (I haven't even saved a file to my machine in that time!) I keep dropping my connection.

All the lights that should be on are on but the machine doesn't recognise the network it's associated with, oh no, hang on a minute, yes it does. I can click a link and the page will load instantly, oh no, wait a minute, it's slower than dial up!

I bought a new microwave recently and even unplugged that in case it was having an effect. Performing a rain dance or chanting my mantra may have been more affective for all the difference that made.

So BT are telling there isn't a defect on the line, and their suggestion was that I connect via ethernet and try that! This machine has never been connected to any network via ethernet ever. (It's my new Black MacBook I got in March). So I trudge off to find a bit of CAT 5 while they kindly wait at the other end of the line - it's an effing 0845 number!

At the start of this post I had no wireless connection, now it's fat and full on. Two hours before I phoned BT my connection was sweet, then it wasn't.

It's not my machine, it's not my router, tried a mates router - no change, it's my damn line.

I'm beginning to form my own opinion of what BT stands for

Used to be with BT although I must admit I didn't have the problems you're having, my only gripe with BT was the email having to go through Yahoo which I must either pay for or if I used the free mailbox it wouldn't link to my mail app and the spam is included in the deal.
Sounds like you have an uphill battle trying to get BT to admit a faulty line and send out an engineer to check it

i used to have BT but they kept adding in "service charges" which was almost double the line rental!!!!

so we told em to stiff it where the sun doesnt shine - but never had the issues you are having - sorry mate! it does sound like a line issue though - get bt to phone you and go through the configuration. they are limited with mac knowledge, but if we managed it you deffo will!

changed to toucan - which is ok but very cranky. thing is though, its ONE charge per month - there are NO stealth charges at all, which is excellent.

we rarely have an issue connecting, but their web mail thing is pretty poor and you cant attach any files greater than 1meg - which is very poor!

am thinking of switching to madasafish when i cancel toucan, as i'm moving house soon.

best of luck with bt - we were not impressed at all

Cheers Beermonster, I'm gonna start looking around. Thanks for the reminder about madasafish, I had completely forgotten about them.
