Customer leaves, but wants changes to their file first

So, We have a customer that has decided to leave, but before he goes he wants us to make a ton of difficult changes to all his jobs for the next company. I just don't get it. He doesn't like our work, we're to slow, everything is wrong with his crap jobs. They are crap. The design is 25 year old film, we digitized it at no cost to make our life easier.

Most costly changes he'll ever pay for and I'm giving him CT/LW files.

Don't let the door hit you on the A$$ on the way out.

THAT particular backup tape does not read for some unexplained reason.

He should have fun dealing with the Pre-separated, 133lpi Screened Brisque LW files.[/i]

Give him a Press Quality PDF on which you restricted printing with a password. If he pays, give him the password.

They have made a program that makes password un needed. because to many people cant remember a password so that is not going to work.

Here is a good one fix nothing hand them the files and tell the new design print house to make edits. Say your sure they won't mind doing it for nothing

once upon a time long ago in a company far, far away a departing customer of the most difficult sort demanded their film be wrapped up and sent to their next victim... er, printer.

My boss had us salvage all the nice red tape and sheets of orange stuff first. We just sent them... the film... in one big pile...

Never heard a thing about it, either.

Working Saturday, again.

Update: Got a call from the customer late Friday. His new printer doesn't know how to handle Pre-Sep'd - Pre-Screen - LineWork (LW) files. He wants his stuff in Illustrator 8.

I "nicely" told him that his artwork was delivered to us as film, we scanned it to make the LW files and there was no way to make turn it into an Illustrator file. The film was trashed years ago and the only other option was to recreate the artwork. By our estimates that would cost $10,000.

Profanity was the response.

I hung up, went home happy and had a beer.
