How to make mud out of crystal-clear water...

So I just got a call from a lady working at a magazine that received a final high-res PDFX1a file from me through their FTP. My procedure is to put the file on their FTP, take a snapshot of the FTP window, showing the file is there. Then I rasterize the file in Photoshop, set the word "VISUAL" in big red letters, save it as an RGB jpeg and call it "visual.jpg". I then e-mail the magazine explaining that I just put the file on the FTP, that the file name is "blabla.pdf", that I include both a snapshot of the FTP window and a low res jpeg of what the file should look like with the e-mail message. Then ship a proof to the magazine. So the lady was all upset thinking I uploaded the wrong version of the file because the word "VISUAL" was not showing on the proof she received!!!

Maybe you're OVER thinking the process? All those steps may be "too much information."

I will usually verify (for myself) that the file transferred successfully, then I send an e-mail that lists the filename and path. All that photoshop jazz seems a bit much. I'd prefer to be on to the next project, unless they have specifically requested that detailed a process just to take care of a file transfer.

I dare say you're missing the point, this is a rant, not a question, and it is an example of "making something idiot proof, just so someone makes a better idiot"
