When good Duotones go bad.....

:x

**Deep Breathe**

Ever have one of those jobs where you look at an image sent in from a customer as RGB and think "this would look GREAT as a duotone (and print better on our flexo presses)". You dig in and begin converting / tweaking said image the wole time shaking your head in agreement. The art is then filmed out and you check the film yourself thinking "oh yeah".

Then.... It goes on press...

Everything is over saturated and the art just looks oh so wrong. you are left standing in disbelief at the end of the press with one of those black clouds over your head and egg slowly sliding down your face...

Those days really really suck.

Not to pick at your wound...
but I noticed there's no reference to a "proof" between the substantial file rework and the press... :?:

Also you should have started you thread as:
"Breath deep, the gathering gloom." ring a bell?
Proof would have done it.

We did do a proof. Proofing spot colors in duotones has been less than stellar for us in the past (the inks press uses are very translucent). This one just bit me in the butt as I was sure I had double checked everything. ops:

-We did end up using the same plates and just changed the pantone colors.

Fair enough, can't always simulate those duos, you're right about that
Especially those nifty Black + Metallic ones :P

Well, the way I look at it is your duo conversion was correct since you didn't have to remake the plates just an ink change. It's all about the curves anyway.
