There are plenty of great employees out there, although it can be hard to match personalities to company cultures.

Staff like this are like a virus to some businesses with good staff thinking if he can get away with it why should I try harder. It is also a sign of weak management not to be able to deal with it effectively.

I would explain to key staff ( while supporting them ) that they are having to work harder to carry him, and let natural attrition do the rest. Nothing worse than working in an unfriendly atmosphere.

In Oz they have just changed the Industrial Relation Laws so you do not have to give warnings etc. in SME. ( which can be abused by unscrupulous
employers )

The "underachivers" now have no choice but to work well with others.

Check out this thread, this little device would be excellent for driving a supervisor nuts.
