Why is Photoshop the answer to everything?

I can't see where the general public got the idea that Photoshop is for designing print. I got an 8 page brochure layout handed to me in RGB 350dpi JPEG. I was too scared to look at it last week, but now tomorrow I'm gonna have to start my week by fixing the damn thing to be ready for printing. She even so kindly imposed the pages already for booklet form. What the $(*!)*$!. How many test prints did she have to run off of her inkjet for that to work?? Even I can't figure out what pages go opposite eachother without using an Acrobat plug-in.

Whats worse? I asked her why she used Photoshop to do this layout, when there are other programs that could have helped her do it in half the time while making her layout like soo much better. She then admits to be that she has Adobe CS2 but she feels more comfortable in Photoshop than the "other programs." Translation: I'm gonna keep on giving you files set up in Photoshop. ARGGG

I'm not one to complain. But I just can't figure out where people got this idea. Is it because Photoshop is so freely available on the internet?

We had a client that brought in single colour tiff files to be output to film at 1500% from a photoshop file that was designed as material which harnesses the energy of your aura. It was designed by a university professor.

Wierdest client ever........

The surprising thing was that it actually fit after being output.

You did know, however, that Photoshop CS2 works with vector type, right? And text can be imbedded, or outlined as needed? And can be prepressed rather easily?

We have a client (Ad Agency-Real Estate Marketing) we print TONS of work for.
They do almost everything in PS... 99%
We're talking 4pt built blk type (disclaimers) reveresed out - in all kinds of colors.
No problems ever... easy prepress - drop in INDD > PDF > IMPOSE > PROOF/PLATE. Good money jobs.. long runs. Email proofs. We love 'em.

The kinds of clients that sauce is complaining about are usually the type that don't know anything about proper type usage (and how to embed the fonts, send the fonts along with the job or convert to paths...).

I get the same kind of people. I've been doing this for a bunch of years, so it doesn't bother me much anymore. FWIW, if I were sauce and it was feasible for him to do so, I would take a trip out to the client's office and show them how to use the whole Creative Suite.

Sometimes, you really have to draw them a picture, you know?
