Sony digital Cameras and Camcorders

I have a Sony DSC-F717 digital still camera that recently went bad. The image sensor stopped working. Nothing would display on the LCD screen. It was as if the lens cap was still on.

I took it to the local Ritz camera store. Ritz said for $300 they would kindly send it to Sony for repairs. I was not about to sink $300 in to a camera that was 3 years old. I went out on the internet and did a search for Sony camera repairs. Lo and behold what did I find. Sony has a massive recall on still cameras and camcorders with bad image sensors. They will fix the problem for free (shipping included). I just got my camera back after about a week and a half and it works fine. There is a massive class action lawsuit against Sony for a number of their products that have image sensors that go bad when subjected to any kind of extreme heat (leaving a camera in the car on a hot day).

DO NOT LET SOME CAMERA STORE RIP OFF YOU OR YOUR FRIENDS. My camera store had to know this was going on. They just wanted to pocket $300. If you or any of your friends have a Sony camera that is a couple of years old and has gone bad go out to the internet and do some research. I JUST DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYONE GET RIPPED OFF BY THIS.

Here is a link to get you started if you have one of these defective cameras.

I just looked. I sent my camera out on August 18th and got it back today August 30th. I hate that this happened, but at least Sony took care of it quickly and without alot of red tape and BS.

Lefkoff , I think you've forgotten the most important steps to resolution:

1. Take a picture with your newly repaired Sony of your middle finger extended fully.

2. Return to the previously mentioned camera shop

3. Output the image on their photo printing machine.

4. Hand over the $1.25 or whatver for the print.

5. Slam it on the counter & tell 'em that's the only cash they can ever expect to get from you & to SIT ON IT!
