Arial is the suck

Never before has one typeface given me so much grief.
Anyone who knowingly uses Arial should be guiloteened, I suspect they are mostly PC users as most come from MicroSoft Turd. Well save the PC bashing for another day.

ARRRRRGHHHHHHHHH!

Is it the suck because of a RIP error or just plain blandness/ubiquitosity?

Here are the five fonts I hate the most due to ugliness or overuse:

1. Comic Sans
2. Sand/Mistral
3. Rosewood
4. Papyrus
5. Any block of text set entirely in an unreadable script font at a small point size

I'll admit that I use Arial as my font of choice for setting things including
block type up. I do however include the font when archiving those tabs,
forms, etc. and I have a great version of it that works all the time *knocks on
wood* for each platform. There seem to be scads of them loose in the
world though, and if you don't have the right, good version it leads to pain.

"Knowingly" - there's the operative statement.

Arial is the Monotype clone of Helvetica, and it's a perfectly good typeface, or was, until Microsoft's Core Web Font initiative came along about 10 years ago. Most of the trouble I see comes from users clicking indiscriminately on one version or another (having several loaded at once) and it's the Microsoft web version that screws us up.

That, and using more than one version in the same document.

I avoid using arial. It's too unpredictable.

In all the printers and computers I have used, bullets done in arial won't print. I get a 'yen' character instead.

If I get grief from Arial, I sub Helvetica and move on. If the user is critical, they would not use Arial. Problem solved.

I get this issue when a new OS X user uses the Apple version of Times and Helvetica (dfonts). I have them stripped out and sub my T1 version.

I have had more problems with Helvetica. Sure bullets in Arial are rather unpredictable but more often than not our rip would choke on the Helvetica... I think there was a bad version floating around the shop.

I can't believe your 'top 5' list didn't include Brush Script. Nothing better than someone setting a whole page or block of text in it. Stunning in it's utter beauty!

Arial is awesome. I love that font. Combined with Arial Black, you've got a complete package of fontiness.

The main reason is becuase all my fonts are up the shit and i don't have time to nut out the source of the problem. Arial is the only damn font that still works without a bloody conflict error. X1 and it's bullshit with helvetica is killing me. It's easier to handball the job to one of the guys.
