Are people really this stupid?

Small rant.

Come in today, there's a note on my desk from Boss-Man about a soft proof I emailed client yesterday - I wrote a short SHORT note in the email to client..."Your logo files are fine for printing...they look fuzzy in this proof to keep the file size small"...

Apparently this client cannot or will not read a simple one sentence comment, as they are now crying about "low-res logos" and "why didn't I use the high-res logos provided on the disk"

Godammit people, just stop for one second and open your eyes.

And another one yesterday: I was told to typeset a business card, yet all I was given was a name and title - no phone/cell number, email, etc...so I left X's in place of the missing information and requested the client to verify the numbers when I sent an email...

Phone rings ten minutes later - "You forgot to type in the phone number...we can't have X's printed on her card, she's an account manager!"

And DON'T call me "sweetheart".

Imagine whiny voice of client: What??! That would mean we would have to read what you gave us! We don't want to have to do anything, you (meaning the printer, typesetter, etc.) make it work...

Yeah, it sucks.

Even better, when given a proof with a sign off sheet that states clearly 'customer is responsible for final proofreading and content of this job' they still refuse to read the job and blame us when it is printed/processed/shipped wrong.

And then they want us to take 50% off of the job because of their error!

Obviously, due to the fact that I am still ranting, I am still at the old job. The two shops are now sharing me, so when I run out of work to do here and get bored (which is by around 10AM every day) I hop on over to the other shop. Weird, but beautiful. Soon, I'll be staging a walkout at this place and that will be that.

Seriously. I'm working a 4cp postcard for a car dealership right now...they're going to print like 10,000 of these and the verbage on the little coupons is all jacked up and choppy because I typed exactly what the client scribbled out on the "mock-up". In my email correspondence I've noted that the wording sounds "funny" and that they should clean it up. No response.

I can't wait to print 10M postcards written in pidgin English.

Set up a signature in your email application, as you'll save time down the track. It will fix about 92% of your customer queries. Something like...

Dear sir/maddam,

Please refer to my email below.

Kind Regards

<Your details here>

It's polite, yet has a smidgen of condescention with a dollop of smart-arse.

That is exactly how I would do the same thing. You proceed as far as possible, let the people know what issues they are dealing with when seeing the proof/PDF/email and document it.

Now you can print out the "sent" email and explain to the boss that you explained that in your email.

A perfect example of covering your ass.

You can work for me anytime.
