It's getting even better now!

Phonecall from client, tells me her "printing expert" is there and wants to talk to me. A long-winded ten minute chat about a 1/16" discrepancy of a right margin they are seeing between a printed sample from god knows when vs the PDF proof I am emailing them.

Printing Expert: "Are you making your PDF at full size? Because when we print it out it's 'different'..."

Same file we've been using year after year.

People, this is only PRINTING. You are retarded.

I love printer margins. They make people look dumb.

Every week, guaranteed, someone in the prepress gets a call/email regarding a job being too small/large. Always people printing PDFs to shrink to fit, or fill the page.

Best one was a lady who rang up and abused our receptionist because her business cards were the size of a letterhead. "what the hell am I supposed to do with giant business cards". Our receptionist has no idea about print, but she sorted out the client in a fashion that didn't belittle her. Such a waste. Wish i got the call.

We have clients who will take a ruler to a fax proof.
The best, thought, was a designer who wanted me to come over and check her printer because her tri-fold brochure kept coming out with panels off-center. She KNEW she set it up right, 1/2 inch margins, 1/2 inch gutters between the columns......

Well, in the layout, your gutters need to be twice your horizontal margins.

heres one...

got an envelope die in yesterday. It was a PDF file. Print out said pdf file, it has dimensions and all kinds of arrows and thingies all over it so we know what size it supposed to be (should be a 8 inch square env with flaps and all). The actual 8 inch square is over 11 inches (file was enlarged to show detail???) Call them up , they tell us to view it on the SCREEN at actual size and it will be alright??!!!???!!

ACTUAL SIZE ON THE SCREEN???? DO I PUT A RULER ON MY SCREEN TO CHECK THE SIZE???
Friggen idiots.
Okay, I'll fix it in Illy to make it the right size. No prob...
Expecting it to be a die outline made on a CAD, it should be a piece of vector art. Open up PDF in Illy to save it as a .eps or whatever, an lo and behold, it's an image, a friggen .jpeg, no less!

Call them up, talk to the lady, "oh yeah, I did make it full size and I think there was a mention of the jpeg thing, I'll get my die guys to check it out".

After that, it was indeed "Happy Hour", cause I was outa there!
