The Death of Manners

I'll preface this by saying, I don't really consider myself an "old guy," just in case it ends up sounding that way. Which, it very well might. Oh well.

See, I'm typically the last one out of the shop (except the 2nd shift press ops, they don't count). I come in late, I stay until the CSRs, Sales Slime, etc are all gone, no big deal. What really pisses me off lately though, is when I leave, the front offices are all dark, doors are locked tight, everybody gone home to their loving families or pets - just the way it should be, right?

How freakin' hard would it be to stick those little heads around the corner and say "Good night"? I mean, really. I do it when they're all working late. Shit, I even throw in a witty comment or two sometimes! But noooooo, leave the last prepress monkey in his cage with not so much as a how-do-you-do! Fine! Ya bastards.

Re: The Death of Manners

/agreed

People are selfish, arrogant, self-centred pieces of shit and most don't seem to give a damn about anyone. Don't feel bad, mate, it's the way of the future.

Being polite isn't hard to do, but most people are incapable of getting it done. I put it down to ignorance, as surely your day/week/life would go smoother if you were nice to people along the way.

I think prepress are some of the most polite people out there, as we have developed super-human tolerances to idiocy and stupid-headism. As a result, we are polite and friendly when we meet regular people.

There are sometimes anomalies (like the time I lost the plot and hurled a visy recyling bin at the production manager - quite rude), but it works as a rash generalisation.

Cheer up mate - people are stupid.

Just give it back to them. I learned that lesson about 2 days into my first job 10 years ago, now I just concentrate on my work and ignore everyone except the people in my dept.

My attitude is that I'm only here for a paycheck, so I do my work and go home.

Like I said before, "fuck 'em"

Screw the sales staff. But the CSRs are problably climbing over top of each other trying to get the hell out of there before the phone rings again from some idiot designer who just dropped their job off to insist that it get done the next day because they are going on vacation.

Feel your pain man. We have one guy in particular that just disappears without a word. Often times when I'm working in the back of the shop, people leave without telling me and don't lock the door behind them so I could have a customer after hours sitting there for 30 minutes waiting for a pickup without me even knowing it.
I remember one night some street bum ended up wandering through the whole shop and scared the crap out of me.

Life's a bitch for a reason.

I've got nothing useful to add, but I really need to get crackin on upping my post count.

So with that said, perhaps you should hire an axe wielding maniac to stroll in after hours to scare the crap outta whoever hasn't left yet, you know, just to make a point.

That or ignore them like morgan suggested.
