I find it pretty useful when clients make their filenames like "pg a-1 June06.pdf"
You can quickly convert a whole folder full of files named like this and drop them down to "01.pdf"
I use it for some of our weekly jobs. Then go to InDesign and update links. Works like a charm and saves me about 30 minutes.
It works really well for pics from digital cameras as well.
So here's another question. Do any of you guys use imposition software that will automatically place PDF files on InDesign docs where they are supposed to go? Maybe it's a plug in or third party. I know it exists, just don't know what it's called.
Thanks!

Golden. Very helpful indeed. Thanks for the link.
I too would love to know if there is a way to automatically place images (not just PDFS) into InDesign.

When I find it, I'll post it on here. Probably in the InDesign thread.
I've got a few phone calls to make to an advisor, but I think I can have an answer by Thrusday. Maybe.
And you're welcome on the link to renamer. Handy little app.

here is a link to an applescript that makes a catalog in Indesign of pictures:
http://bbs.applescript.net/viewtopic.php?id=16832
save it to your Indesign/scripts folder and then go to your Indesign/Window/automation and open the scripts window, click on the script and follow the instructions.
Is that what you need?
hope it helps,
David

Sort of but not really. What I'm lookin for takes a pdf with 32 pages and pairs them up for printing for a tabloid. So, it would take page 1, 16,17, and 32 and put them in the correct position on the first page of a template and fill in the rest of the 8 flats as well.
It's kind of a tall order, but I know it's out there...somewhere. I sent an email today to the guy that told me about it the first time, so he could give me the name of the app. I'll post it here if he gets back with me

Sounds like you're talking about Preps, but that's a standalone app, not a plugin for InDesign

Thanks. Had no idea it was a creo product.
I've been doing a little research on CTP from creo and didn't even notice it there.

It's actually now a Kodak product. They even changed their icon to the Kodak icon.
