The problem is one page of a 32 page book. All the rest of the pages are similarly named(yes I have 32 individual files). :?

My absolute favourites would have to be the ones you get from clients called something like:

Brochure_final_approved_2.pdf

Often the number is much higher.

Then you get in trouble for running Final Approved 2 because they gave the sales rep a disc with Final Approved 3!!! :?

I think you got in trouble because you ran it without any approval whatsoever. I have a disk here titled 'Brochure_final_approved_37b.pdf - I don't know what it relates to, so it must be yours. Did you want me to forward it to you?

Don't know who your client is, but it sounds like a job from a mob called 'Bunnings' to me. I bet HR are involved though.

Oh the fun with file names.
I really love the ones from the old school Mac designers?now they have to pay attention to those silly extensions things. (I knew I was in trouble the first week of a new job when one of the artists wanted to know what was that .ai at the end of the file.
Most file names are not for clarity in the prepress?it is so the designers can find the file on their desktops. They only have one ?flyer? at a time. You don?t really have to know what company the file belongs to, you would never allready have a folder named ?fonts? anywhere on your machine?don?t forget that ?links? is a unique folder name for a folder with a few dozen picture files.
(Yes, like most of you out there, the first thing I have to do is rename files. Then go through the fun of relinking files.)

Another Renaming tool.

Here's another that we use. It has a bit more functionality than x29, but only for OSX

http://www.power4mac.com/renamer/

I find it pretty useful when clients make their filenames like "pg a-1 June06.pdf"

You can quickly convert a whole folder full of files named like this and drop them down to "01.pdf"

I use it for some of our weekly jobs. Then go to InDesign and update links. Works like a charm and saves me about 30 minutes.

It works really well for pics from digital cameras as well.

So here's another question. Do any of you guys use imposition software that will automatically place PDF files on InDesign docs where they are supposed to go? Maybe it's a plug in or third party. I know it exists, just don't know what it's called.

Thanks!
Jeremy
