It's just that easy
I thought I lost my fookin? mind yesterday. My situation is this, I was hired to start up a small prepress department for a print broker who uses about six different printers around the country. They are really dragging their feet about getting me the right equipment I need and when we talk about hiring other people to help, this is where it gets hairy. I was initially told that we would be hiring qualified people, now that has changed to using some of the CSR?s in our office. I got into the biggest argument with my boss yesterday because he thinks all we need to do is use MarkZware Filghtcheck and that will solve all our problems. While I think Flightcheck is a great program, I tried to explain that it is used to HELP a prepress operator, not make files ?print ready? for someone who has no experience in this part of the industry. As of today we are still banging heads over this issue. I told him if we use the people we already have I will be babysitting people all day and not have enough time to get my work done. It is amazing how some people hear a couple of buzz words and they think that a click of the mouse will solve all your problems. Not only is this insulting to what we do for a living, it isn?t very cost effective.
One more thing, He told me he wants Prinergy in this office. He doesn?t even know what it does, but because he heard that a printer we use has it, he thinks we need it. Prinergy is great, but what the hell am I going to do with it? Send imposed proofs to our black and white printer?

i love the rampant use of catch phrases in the office. someone hears "prinergy", it sounds cool, and they start throwing it around. we have the same thing around here with jdf. "oh boy, we have to start using jdf", like it is some kind of magic program that makes presses run better and makes all the problems disappear. its actually pretty funny, if you are in the mood for that kind of thing.

Hasn't Prinergy been upgraded? Isn't called PrintReady now?

if you're not in the mood for that sort of thing, it makes people look so stupid to me.

I was surprised to see that on the CREO website they refer to "JDF" as "plug and play". This is what these people see and actually believe it will fit them seemlessly.

Man if what you got listed there is your work setup seems to me you need a hardware update more than peons. A Nice 2.5 Gig G5 will do the work of many tards.

Does he know what the price of Prinergy is? LOL If he's got that much money to burn he should at least let you upgrade to a G4.

That is the beauty of this whole deal, he has no idea. As for my signature, that is only for amusement (notice the last item) We actually have some pretty decent G5's, it is the proofing and lack of people that he just does not understand.
His catch phrase is "we have to find a turn-key solution for commercial print"
WTF!?!
