Extensis can go to hell!

Suitcase X1 randomly crashes all day everyday. I create a folder CRASH. I sneeze CRASH. Someone walks into the room CRASH. I think about what im gonna eat for lunch CRASH!

SO I decide to do a fresh system & suitcase install on a brand new hard drive. CRASH CRASH FREAKIN CRASH! Then I downloaded Suitcase Fusion and do another fresh system & suitcase install. Same FN thing.

This is with no fonts/sets activated, random fonts/sets activated, all fonts/sets activated. (basically I dont think its corrupt fonts)

BLAH!

There I feel better now! :?

I never understood how a company that knows nothing about fonts could make a font manager, so I never bought one. Linotype a font foundry came out with a free one so I downloaded it and found it to be just what I wanted. Who better to make one than a foundry?
Get it here it's like iTunes for fonts.

Did you trash your prefrence files for X1?

I had a computer here that did that a while back...If I didn't get every last one out of there it crashed. I finally just started digging and found a couple folders I missed and now it still works fine.

I'll look around and see if I can give you the exact locations.

Trashed? Hell I installed a system on a new HD & suitcase. Crashed within 5 min of use with no fonts even activated. Basically opened suitcase - created a folder & CRASH.

BUT to answer your question - yes I trashed the prefs many times. :x

you installed it on a system that has never had it and it crashed?

What version of OS are you running?

I'm just trying to get a feel for your setup...

I use Suitcase everyday and it has it's quirks, but if you can get by those you it is an amazing system IMHO.

zombi,

i fought long and hard with suitcase and fontagent pro, and scrapped em after reading a thread (in here i think).

all i have done, is clear out all of my font folders

library>fonts
system>library>fonts (except for basic system fonts)
user>username>library fonts

i then made an alias of my user?username>fonts folder on my desktop. i drag my job fonts into that folder as needed, on a job by job basis, and trash them when i am done with them (use secure empty trash, since they in essence become system fonts when you drag them in there).

im not sying this is right or wrong, but i can tell you that my font problems VANISHED. and we have a tone of fonts that come through here on a day-to-day basis. it seems to me that what i am doing is exactly what i need, minus the headache of the font management software.

again, all i can is that it works like a charm on all of our macs, and id recommend trying it to anyone else who is having trouble.
