My boss thinks this way sometimes, even though he was doing this kind of work before I came into the business to take care of prepress functions. He means well usually, but his methods are close-minded and unexplorative, and he tends to get in the way. He only just found out from me that you can open a PDF in Illustrator and that you can slip-sheet jobs that need to be run on a printer automatically. He also doesn't know the real reasons files are said to be in "formats."

careful careful... I would only reccomend opening Illustrator pdf's with illustrator. It has issues reading the pdf if it's from other programs....

I've seen a couple OMGWTFBBQ errors in Illustrator before when opening other programs' PDFs, but at that point I just back off of it anyway, but usually the only problems I run into are font issues (normally anything exported by an MS Office program). I'm also obsessive-compulsive.

Aree with this. It's up to management. If they choose to not charge them there is not much I can do about it.

I am in the digital imposition dept. and I have to give kudos to those of you "typesetting/miracle workers" that care enough to make sure the files are right before sending them on to imposition. You make my job easy for the most part. I've restripped (manually, at that) many a job because in the "good old days" the typesetting dept. was responsible for making sure the film was right before sending it on to the stripping dept. and well, let's just say I don't miss that one ioda!! I am lucky to have good people ahead of me and my days are filled with peace until I start thinking about upper mgmt.(?) I've said my piece many a time about mgmt. (or the lack thereof) without any progress being made so now I've come to the conclusion that I have to remember a saying that a very WISE OLD stripper once said "Ain't much use yellin' at a deaf dog!!" I try to keep that in mind every day in the printing industry. Gotta love it!!
