Ya, 43, that sucks, and it happens to all of us at one point or another...

If it makes you feel any better you can ask wtf the press operator was doing
when they tried to make sure the piece was backing up properly when it
came off press. Still your mistake, still "should never happen," and mabey
I'm lucky when the pressmen I work with stop a job and say "Hey, Tom...
is this really supposed to back up like this?" It's the teams job to pick you
up sometimes...

Now don't let it happen again :!:

Nobody's perfect 43.

Unfortunately it's never a case of if, only when.

Happens to us all.

This should make you feel better, I did the same thing on a 180,000 run.

[quote="prepress_brillance_43"]back side of a calendar cover was fliped 180 degrees so the back up was upside down. it was on a gang run so I had done the imposition manually in Indesign. changes were made after proofing. no new proof because the job was an inhouse job... ops: i am soo embarrassed. it is the thing you dont do/

Oh yes, calendars can be tricky with the orientation of its pages. It is a easy mistake to make. When doing calendars I always make a "dummy" to follow when imposing.

thanks guys.

I justify my actions yesterday by claiming to have saved the company money becase if I hadnt caught it at 9000 shts, they would have run 22,000 wrong. my manager did step up at the end of the day and say that HE was just as much at fault because he is supposed to be checking these(EVERY run as pressman makes pulls in makeready)... but it is still my job to not let it get out of EPP wrong... and they got used to me not having any problems and they got lazy.

no excuses though, still my fault ultimately.
oh well, thanks for support, you guys rock!!

I think I got ya all beat.

My department had the pleasure of 56 skids, $36,000 goof. I have a great picture of it somewhere. We use it as a reminder anytime a CSR or anyone else wants to ignore procedures.

My own personal goof happened years ago. I was running out 2 page spreads for a saddle-stitched catalog and I doubled the shingling, oops. Lucky for me the customer was clueless and accepted the job.

We seem to have more of those kinds of mistakes at this shop than any I've ever workerd for. Yet for all my fighting over procedures, the owner runs the show, and we rush stuff through all the time with no final proof (always his call - and I always comment on it).

Here's one I'll never forget (from a previous shop). 2 color door hangers for a glass company - files supplied as Illy EPS - all different builds of color. So as I re-color everything in the file, 50,000 peices are printed and delivered before anyone notices that 1 (one) of the little lines of the barcode is missing. All that time I spent fixing thier file, and I missed ONE FREAKIN skinny little line - and of course the barcode doesn't work without ALL of the stupid little lines.

Ahhhh.... memories. And I'll probably be able to report on another new mistake before this day is over!
