Know it all designers . . .
WOW, i would like to choke the life out of her w/ my bare hands!
PainMaker 6.5 file, 2c, letter fold broch supplied on disk. fonts - yes, links - most of them. One Freehand EPS contains an embedded file that was not included on disk.
Open the Freehand EPS file and it asks to locate missing file, Print PS 2 PDF and it says embedded image not found . . . you get the point. (if the designer checked these things she would too!) I call and reguest the missing file and here comes the attitude, "Are you new?", "I've been a garbage designer for 20 years" (really, you should know this shit by now!) and no I'm not "new" ms. designer - been doing this for almost 10 years, give me the damn file and go away. not to mention all the screened boxes & such are set to a seperate spot color of the same PMS used throughout the document. give it up lady, and oh-yea - get InDesign!
thanks -
vee
been one of those weeks for me!

We have one like that. She came from the sign industry, decided she wanted to be a freelance graphic designer for print...
In the last 2 years we have given her the equivalent of a Master's degree education in printing, AND SHE STILL FORGETS TO COLLECT FOR OUTPUT!!!
WTF?
BTW, not all graphic designers are a**es, just a select few...

And the really good ones are a dying breed. Sadly, the bad ones are the ones that leave the most memorable impressions.

It's the ones who could careless about what prepress has to do to get it to print that are the bad ones. They can't seem to get passed the " well what the hell do you have to do that for?" attitude, therefore their ears are never open enough to hear, much less remember, the 167 times last month that you said to her, " I need you to do a collect for output. That way I'll have the fonts and images that you used, ma'am. it's only a click away." "we'll I just don't understand why I have to do that?, don't you guys have a font library there that you can use." "Ma'am, there's over 500,002 fonts in the world or something like that, and yes we do have a font library, and yes I can use it for 3 out of the 52 fonts that you used for your 4-pg brochure, but unfortunately I dont have the other 49." "Well, what kind of a printer are you then, we've been designing for 386 years and we have never had to send fonts." Ma'am that's absurd. It is an industry standard to receive fonts with a job." " Who's standard? Do you guys even know what you're doing over there?" "Ma'am, listen. I'm just trying to get your job done so I can move on, am I going to get your fonts or not?" "(groans) OH, I guess if I have to" two hours later you get a disc with nothing but a shortcut to the fonts folder. (on the phone again)>"Ma'am, this disc you sent over is nothing but a shortcut to your fonts folder, there are no actual fonts on it." "What do you mean there's no fonts, I copyed them to the disc myself. You guys are not very professional, I think I'll just cancel my order and take it to Larry's press down the road." "Thank god Ma'am because I was on the verge of stranglling you and I can't really afford to go to jail right now, I go on vacation next week." " I bet that's all you prepress people do is go on vacation all the time, huh?" "Yes ma'am, it is. Have a nice day and don't come back." Two days later... "Hey brandon, this Larry down here at Larry's press." " Hey Larry." " Hey listen, Ive got a client here that can't seem to give me all the proper support files, do happen to have...." and on and on.
...sound familar?

Thanks vee & pressman2. Luckily this is a true story and she will not be back to my shop. Ever.
