off-site platemaker...

...that's right. I have an "off-site" platemaker. We felt that complicating my tasks by involving another shop in order to make my plates was an efficient way to work, I mean shit all you got to do is hit print. So on top of all the prepress I have to do, once I get an approval from customer I have to then send my files via ftp to a guy around the corner, who then RIPS my files to his Palladio. What the fuck?

Luckily it is only for two more weeks until my screen platerite gets here.

"ain't life grand?"

yeah, well, this is what we did for a few months while waiting for our platemaker to arrive. This was back before DVDs (yes!) were in regular use, and we were sending the vendor 1 bit tiffs for 64 inch plates, which can run to 2GB, too big for CDs (and they don't compress any smaller), so we went out and bought a bunch of 2GB Jaz drives and a whole shitload of cartridges, which are all now sitting on a shelf around here somewhere...

Yikes. I am thankful for FTP. Driving 5 minutes to get plates sucks. Having to coordinate my schedule to his to get plates sucks. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one to deal with such a setup.
