Overworked,.....Underpaid

The "higher ups" just told me today they are probably going to by a half size 5 color with direct imaging heads. They want me to continue to handle ALL of the prepress so they won't have to increase they're payroll (without increasing my salary).

What jerks....I already feed a HP Indigo 5,000, QMDI, 2 Ryobi's, do a production schedule, occupational safety program, and set up the entire estimating system, and various other odd jobs around the place.

i feel like im getting raped......badly.

When I started here we had 32 employees. We now have 9. I used to work with a cameraman, 4 strippers, and a platemaker/proofer. Now I run the whole shebang by my lonesome and I got no more money ta do it. We did go CTP a few months ago so it's not as bad as it was but still...

We've been "doing more with less" these last several years too. We (read mostly as I) keep absorbing duties while the company keeps absorbing the salaries!

However, that's the way it is in the industry right now unless you're working somewhere with a lot of waste and those places won't last too long. It's up to each one of us, I guess, to decide if we can live with our situation each time it changes or if we need to move on. I always choose to live with it and I think it's still working out for me.

It sure sounds tough out there, and I have no high degrees to add to the resume´ so I'm sort of stuck here or maybe start my own business???

yeah, that's what i've always thought. however, the job market for persons with my skills seems to be rather dry. i met with a cgx company last week though. i hope they'll offer me some type of opportunity.

Suck it up people it's not going to get any better, it's probably going to get worse. As technology progresses they'll just push us aside and move forward. We are just a face in the crowd my friends and the sooner you realize this the better off you'll be. Show's of the future are starting to ring true. But think of the bright side, as you're living under some bridge somewhere drinking ripple with a friend in your refrigerator box at least you won't be alone.
