New Rampage System with Agfa Accuset

We had Rampage installed yesterday. We are very excited to have this great system. We purchased a used system, it's running 8.6, I hope to upgrade soon.

Question: We have it connected to an Agfa Accuset 1000(capstan device), to run poly plates for our small duplicator presses. It connects fine but Rampage gives us no options on centering or positioning the image on the media. We run 14 inch wide media (roll material). Rampage images on the far edge which gives our pressman no place to punch and hang the plate. Rampage says that they can't add the options. Our only option is to rip the file, generate an fpo, postion the fpo on a Quark template and re-rip the job so it positions it properly. We do a lot of little duplicator stuff and having to impostion and re-rip files is going to kill our production time. Does anyone have any suggestions????? Please let me know. :?:

that's how we do it. It's not as bad as it sounds. adds like a minute to each job. We don't even save the quark files. Our template is a page the size of our plate, which is also the width of the material so it works out well. We just center the fpo. Save the new EPS to a hot folder that goes right to plot and it's all done. Just have to clean up FPO's later.

You actually can center your output on the film from within Rampage but it will not set it for correct edge of plate to pin center. But if you are running it on a 1250 then technically it should be impossible to accommodate for pins as they would fall well inside the gripper of that press.

You can do it with PS

If you don't need In-RIP trapping, you can use the postscript feature in Rampage. The following also assumes you are making the poly plates only as long as needed, not pin to pin on the press. Here's how it goes:

Select print from the ap
In Page size, select 14 wide by the document length plus twice the distance from top-of-plate to top-of-paper.
Print to a file, or even setup a hot folder

The resulting file in RamPage will be large enough for the plate and have the image in the right position.

It sounds complicated, but we used this method for 3 years with a CompuGraphic 9400 and its actually very quick once you get used to it.

Good luck ...Wayne

Also you can also take your EPS files that you would have dropped into the rip, and place them in the center of a page in quark and make a second EPS. basically position it before you rip it as opposed to after. Only down side is you won't get the proper marks unless you make those by hand.
