PDF bleed question

I crossposted this onto the unofficial Rampage group, and haven't seen anything yet, I'm hoping that you guys will pull through for me.

I have an indesign file that has color boxes that bleed of all edges, and a
photo that bleeds off 2 edges.
I have all set up correctly, and export to press ready PDF, but when run
through rampage, only the colored boxes come through as bleeding. The photo
crops off at the edge of document.
Only work around that I’ve been finding is to save as Press ready PDF and
include document bleeds, which essentially resizes and incorporates the
bleed within the document, (Ex. 8.5x11 now becomes 8.75x11.25)
Anybody found another way of dealing with this, I’m hoping that it’s just a
setting in our profile somewhere...
Looking forward to some progress – Thanks!

I'm on OSX and CS2

Is it just me, or isnt this what you get when you include bleeds? a larger page size? the trim box in Acrobat/pitstop would still be at 8.5x11, but page box(bleed box, crop box) is at 8.75x11.25.. Right?

Not sure

When I rip it through rampage is where my problem is....
Not sure what or where the crop/trim boxes are in Acrobat. What would I check it there for? Or am I missing something....
The PDF is fine, the bleeds are there, in the visible space, the document setup is allowing for bleed, and when ripped, it allows ONLY the colored boxes to show, not the actual picture.
Sorry, If I'm confused[/img]

ok, sorry. I guess I am the one that was cornfrused. I check ALL of my pdf's in Acrobat with Pitstop, is why I was saying what I was saying.. then behind that I drop my pdf's into an impo in Indesign, export a pdf and send to trueflow as a 1up.

Sooooo, I am thinking, and this is without Rampage in front of me, that your import settings somewhere in Rampage needs to be set to recognize the bleed in your pdf's. But your saying it does recognize the bleed on the color boxes just not the photo.. I dont see a setting in the Export dialog box from Indesign that would do this... gotta be Rampage.

Thats just how it works, there isn't any other way, your page size has to be larger to accomodate the bleed it self, I export my PDFs from IDCS2 and turn on Crops, Reg marks and PAge info, then impose that on my Plate Templates.

Rip Tab in PDF trap engine

PDF Crop

Rampage uses this pop-up menu to base the size of the RIPed data. If
Marks are selected, the marks will be added based on the RIPed size.
These boxes are contained in the original PDF.
Ex: The Media Box of the file is 12"x12", but the cropped data is only
8.5"x11" and stated as such in the pdf. If Media Box is selected,
Rampage will RIP to the 12"x12" size and add marks outside of
that. If Trim Box is selected, Rampage will RIP to 8.5"x11" and add
marks outside of that.

When you write your pdfs Rampage says you must include your bleeds IE:
8.5 x 11 page needs to be 8.75 x 11.25. You can them crop them in acrobat to the correct size and when ripped the bleed will be there, however here is the caveat, If you run the page using the normal single page rip profile which normalizes the pdf, IE: exports the pdf into single page files .npdf which by the way are really eps files with rampages extension (npdf) you will lose bleed on pictures that were tifs but not on pictures that were placed as eps in the page layout app. If you use the new pdf trap engine that problem goes away. Just make sure if you crop the pdfs, which by the way is the only way to get the crop marks in the correct position you have the "cropping" set in the rip tab as far as what it looks for to apply the cropping info.

it's known issue with PDF and the version of RAMpage your running. The solution is to upgrade to 10. RAMpage says it's an Adobe issue that PSD and TIFF don't show bleed.

I export EPS fron idesign to solve this.
