Yes Rampage sees things different then many other apps, but in the end it all works. Just like anything else in our wonderful world of prepress,
A FILE MOST BE PREPARED PROPERLY BEFORE YOU CAN RIP IT!!!
Just because RIP A does things like this and that RIP B might do things a little different.
Rampage was the leader in the industry when it comes to trapping. Are we saying that they reign no more! I find it hard to believe. Speaking with sales reps here in the Northeast USA there are many installs happening!!
I feel in order to make a proper evaluation make sure you understand how things work first!
Don't forget users, Rampage allows Application trap settings to be used or not!
HMMMMMM let me think Quark traps, no,no,no Illustrator knows, no,wait Indesign knows,no, I GOT IT, I'll let PUBLISHER DO IT!!!!
HA HA HA!!!

As a brand new RAMPage user who used Trapwise for years all I can say about RAMPage trapping is it works, but can get a bit hard on the eyes.
WTF can't the selected item just highlight instead of blink? My eyes feel like they've been subjected to a lightshow after working in TrapIt. Also while it's nice to be able to select and set trapping values for every object, drawing trap zones was faster IMO. Keep in mind my 3 days of training turned out to be only about 3 hours as we had install issues with the plumbing and electric for the Platesetter, so I may need to do some reading to find all the hidden features.

Well thats what we are all here for. Post your ?'s and I'm sure we can lend a hand! Trap It is a breeze, it's in the initial setup in the apps that make or break a trap. PM me anytime! Well 9-5 Eastern Time anyway!
Don't forget Rampage support is the best! Worth every penny!

Make sure to try the EDIT - FIND Objects option in Trapit.
VERY POWERFUL if you need to need to modify a bunch of objects.
Also, Shift-Drag if you want to act like TrapZones....keep holding the shift to unselect objects.
Honestly, very, very few jobs in my shop require any trap-edits these days, but if you have to do it...I think the power in there will surprise you, object level trapping kicks some serious arse !!

One issue I see with object level trapping is it will trap the same color into inself. I had this happen with a gradient running as a footer across a gutter.
I already found the Shift drag, by playing around with it but thanks. I tried the FIND but it was selecting contones as well as other objects such as text.
I'm sure it's the bee's knees just gotta get used to a different way of doing things. 8)

I have always been a die-hard rampage advocate because of its easy to use interface and its ability to rip almost everything and its excellent technical support.
I have now been using prinergy evo for 6 months . Prinergys pdf workflow offers a lot advantages thru-out your prepress environment. You don't need clunky native files for ripping. Your archiving and organization is better. It is solid all-around. The tech support however is lousy. They either take a long time to get back to you or they transfer you to someone in India. Thats is the down-side of Kodak.
Some of the things I remember about rampage, certain traps would create lines in artwork and menu-style fonts would give it hell. They probably have already addressed those issues. They were always good at updating there software.
My experience with Nexus was an all-around nightmare.

I think Rampage's new PDF trap engine is phenomenal! It rips transparent un-flattened PDF's from InDesign with tremendous results. I pretty much save all the PC files I get (Quark, ID, Publisher, Word, etc) as PDF 1.6 or 1.7 files and Rampage rips them flawlessly. Even on the Mac side I rarely export EPS's for Rampage. PDF's are the way to go!

Esko is buying/has bought Artwork Systems. I don't foresee Nexus being in danger.

I use Rampage, and I really really like it, but the trapping has also been kind of an issue. Not a major one for us, but you have to keep an eye on it. It likes to choke where it ought to knockout for me. But the support is the best. If I call with a question, they get to me right then and there, and if they have to call back, I have never waited more than 5 minutes for that call. I can swear, I've never heard one of them say "uh.. hold on" when I ask a complex question.
