Being fairly new to prepress workflows and RAMpage in particular, I'm trying to decide what benefits there are to rampage 9 vs 8.6.

what advantages does the RAMpage NORM workflow offer to the current ROOM workflow?

Any other features of 9 that would be a benefit from a 8.6 user other than the ROOM workflow?

Biggest advantages will be the software FFP work. It's much faster. Over all teh compression is higher and will speed things up. Not to mentiont he only OSX native client will be released in 9.2

The NORM and ROOM settings I doubt will get used much. I didn't see a need for them where I am.

When I was up at the Fuji demo a couple of weeks ago I saw the OSX client, but it was still prerelease. Still no windows client. :?

do you know if the software FFP will generate Ramproof Direct files faster?

we sometimes get these larger posters to run proofs on that take 30-40 minutes for rampage to prep for the proofer.

I'm just looking for ammo to throw at the higher up's to sell version 9 to them.

It is my understanding that because the hardware of the boxes is so much faster now that it no longer made sense for RAMpage to create a Card to do FFP. So yes it should be faster for everything, but check with RAMpage for a definitive answer.

The speed of the software FFP will of course depend on the speed of the box it's running on.

I'm a late comer and I just discovered this forum. Sorry if this is an outdated discussion, but my primary justification for version 9 is OSX native. I had to go to OSX for quark 6, but OSX won't run 8.6, even in emulation mode. So, instead of restarting in 9 ever time, I ended up digging out an old 9500 and am running the client from than, next to my G4 running OSX....patiently (not) waiting for my company to buy version 9.
