MM Font Support/Quark

I've got a file that the client used the Myriad MM font..

I read the Rampage Technotes and modified the "Multiple Master Fonts.lst" file in rampage to include that font..

in the prescan I am still getting font errors..recognizes missing fonts as

myriadMM
myriadMM_215_LT_600_NO

Obviously I just link the MyriadMM to the PS equiv. but what about the other one? I get a font mismatch if trying to link to MyraidMM ..

any ideas how to handle this? I know I have done jobs with MM fonts before and don't recall having a problem..

thanks

only solution I found was to use font Wizard to embed the face into the EPS. Fortunately it's not a real expensive solution. The other option is to set the type in illustrator and make it outlines then place it in Quark as a picture.

thx for the tip..

Just for a test I linked them all the MyriadMM, got the message about linking the wrong font, blah blah...

Looking at the proof it appears that it pulled the proper font..it all looks good..

Why do designers like MM fonts? They are certainly the bain of many a prepress operator. I've had success with MM fonts only if I put them is the system folder of my Mac. I generally do not like too many fonts in the system folder, only the city names, and the display font (charcoal), courier, and Arial. I placed MyriadMM in the system folder, and it is no longer a problem.

From a design point of view MM fonts are supposed to be a great simplification to font management. You no longer need 10 faces of each font name to get the desired results. Instead you have one font that you can change the attributes of. MM fonts can be "programed" to allow you to change their weight making them as bold or light as you like, change their line length making them as condensed or expanded as you want, to virtually every attribute a font can have. Imagine replacing your current library of 3000 or so different font files with just 100?! AND having more choices out of those 100. Thing is no one is making them by the droves, or giving them away, nor do many applications fully support the features.

mm fonts

I hate the myriad mess, but if you save the quark eps file and then use acrobat distiller to create a pdf, and place THAT pdf into rampage, it will embed the fonts OR tell you what's screwed up.
