Rampage

we are going to update to version 9 there is an option for two days on site training. Has anyone done this.

Has anyone who switched from 8.4 or 8.6 have any comments on the problems they had. Did they do the install themselves??

Any one have the 9.0 workflow mapped out

No need to get too worked up about changes to Rampage 9. The majority of people will stay with the ROOM workflow and pretty much ignore the NORM workflow (unless you are in a COMPLETELY .pdf workflow from input to output). The ROOM workflow is basicly the same with most upgrades like a software based screening instead of needing a FFP card (which really speeds things up) being in the background and some pretty much self explanitory minor upgrades to the Client and TrapIt software. We are running 2 RIPs, 1 DLT, 1 RPD and 2 Shooters. Actual workflow could differ depending on your output devices. We didn't do the install ourselves, but from the user side, if you're already comfortable with Rampage, our experience was that complete user training could be done in about a 1/2 hour of the alotted 2 days. If you have users that are newer to Rampage, the extra time could be spent getting them up to speed.

I just did the update from 8.4 to 8.4b12. VERY VERY important you DONOT run anything that is 8.4 after the upgrade. In Jeramey from Rampage's words "It will bring down the entire system." Other than that it was a fairly smooth upgrade. I needed a more stable client for classic. Only problem I had was once I rebuilt my page list, a must for the upgrade, all my old jobs no longer worked. But that is most likely a conflict with Rampage and my unsupported Cyansoft MacServ IP software.

I have gotten teh onsite trainign before, but if your familar with Rampage you maynot really need it.

Upgrade to 9.3 went smooth

I did the upgrade to 9.3 myself and did not have any problems. Rampage insists you buy a year of tech support, so you have that to fall back on. If you have an Epson 10K, the support for variable droplet size is a huge speed boost. We tried the spot color proofing, but found it wasn't quite ready for prime time. The solids are good, but tints of a spot are way off. We sent several samples in to Rampage and they said they were going to work on it. The client unfortunately is a bit slower and clunkier than version 8, but then so is everything for OS X. The ability to edit colors/graphics/fonts on a whole range of jobs is also a big plus.
