RAMpage trapping question...

What settings is everyone using for their trap profile? Normally I run 1.8 mils and have my trap weight at 100% with auto-trap contone to choke. Because of the 100% I'm getting hard trap lines and I'm trying to establish a middle ground to avoid this. Any prior experience? Thanks!

1.8 mils? at what line screen?

I've typicly always run 3 mills (.003in) I stopped choking contones though because I would lose text set in photoshop. trap weight was always 100%. If I came across a bad trap that made a noticable line I would edit it just for that job. usually 40% worked well.

We're using 3 mils also.

I also stopped auto choke for contone images because of occasional problems. Files built differently in Illustrator or sometimes in PDFs the image would break into different sections, then when choked, we'd get a line right through the image. I've been going with a straight knock-out for contones - no problems yet!

We're also leaving the trap at 100%. The only problem I've had is with a job with bright orange letters on bright green background. The customer wanted the hard lines gone. When I explained the theory of trapping and the obvious result of the colors they were using together they were OK with the job as is.

Rampage trapping question...

3 mils? Have to try it. Yeah, most of the hard trap lines I get are certain color combinations - usually a 6-color job. We normally run 175 LS.
