RAMPAGE vs APOGEE X

I have an opportunity to purchase another imagesetter with ApogeeX -- I can save a few bucks with out it in the package but in never hurts to learn another workflow -- anyone know how it compares to Rampage? (i'm posting in Agfa forum also)

Thanks

We might be getting an Apogee system in the next few months too - if you get it let me know how it goes setting up and starting out new.

I was researching both workflows a few years back. We ended up with Rampage simply because the trapping was much more "editable". I went to a "PDF conference" put on by Agfa (so take that for what it's worth) and we were discussing their apogee workflow. I asked about editing the traps that apogee created and after pushing the issue, their work around was creating the traps manually in illustrator, quark, etc...just like the old days, if you weren't happy with the apogee results. That was how I made my decision.

That being said, it was a few years ago and things could have changed a lot. That was just my experience.

Recommend Rampage

We choose Rampage over Apogee 2 years ago and I've never looked back. A few features I liked:

- Built in OPI
- Choice of proofing/imaging hardware (AGFA may tell you that they can also work with other venders, but it's not easy or cheap)
- User interface is faster and easier to use, especially if you work with a lot of small projects.
- ROOM workflow give me piece of mind that proofs will match press.
- Built in color management including spot colors

It's been running in our shop for 2 years now without a single crash. The tech support when you have a hard to RIP file is unmatched.
