Convert Quark 7 to InDesign CS3
Hi,
I have Quark 7 and InDesign CS3. I have Quark files. I need to put them into InDesign. Is there any easy way to convert these?
I searched the forums, and only found Quark 4 to InDesign.
Thanks,
Jon

Check this out
MARKZWARE | Q2ID (QuarkXPress To Adobe InDesign)
It was posted as a news story on the home page a while back I think. Read the documentation though, some items don't make it through the conversion too well.
Or do what almaink said - he beat me to the punch

When I export a PDF from Quark, and place in InDesign... I don't have all the separate elements. Is there a way to get these to be available?
That software is 200 bucks, and I only want to do this on a couple files... so I'd hate to spend the moolah.

Yeah and no, and it's gonna involve some manual work. Get the pdf into into Indy, you have all the separate elements available for the Quark document so... Lock the layer the pdf is on and rebuild the page on another layer by importing the individual elements again.
This way you're only using the pdf as a template to lay everything over the top.
Text reflow will be a pain, so you could make another pdf will all elements except text set not to print and then have a text only pdf for the copy. This is far from ideal as text is a lot more likely to change.

You can also find a print shop that has all the versions of Quark required and pay them to open up the Q7 files, downsave to 6, open in 6, downsave to 5, open in 5 and downsave to 4. Then you can open the Q4 document in InDesign.
It shouldn't cost much, and they might even do it for free if you are a good customer and it is only a couple of files.
Heck, I could do it for you. PM me if you want.

Definitely check for reflow if you go down this route. Also anything created in a later version of Quark that relies on a specific tool such as bezier curves or tables, won't make it past version 5, curves will, but not tables etc.
If you're really desperate you could save the page as an eps, open it in Illy and paste that content into Indy.
As with all work arounds though it's something of a bodge

Use PDF as a template - gotcha.
I would save down from Quark 7 to 6 to 5 to 4, as I have all those versions here.... but I don't think you can save down from 7, can you?

You have to Export from the File menu (I think - haven't used Quark in a while!) rather than 'save as'
