Quark 7 Postscript Issues

I am trying to generate postscript from quark 7 to refine in prinergy but it keeps on dropping some of the content from the top of the page?? Even if I export it as a pdf - it still does this. Opi - on and off same thing.

Any help appreciated.

D.

Hi dcampbell

I moved the post into the Quark forum, you're more likely to get the answer you're looking for there.

The Feed back Forum is really for messages related to the site.

Cheers

Jezza

Have you tried re-saving the items that are dropping off in their native applications? Then reimport/update and do a 'save as' now try generating your PS. I've known it work.

There might possibly a corrupt font that hasn't been outlined in one of the items that drops off also.

are your page set ups correct?

have you got it centred on the page? or have you got trim marks on and it wont all fit on the page?

done this before myself - doh!

You may want to delete half of the missing items from the page and try to refine the PS. If the items are still missing replace the elements you deleted and delete the items that were not deleted the first time. If am item is corrupted this should show you the part that is the issue. Once you have the section that is an issue delete half of those... You should see the pattern.

If both major sections fail then you may want to delete one item at a time, each time trying to refine a PDF, until you get all of the items that are problematic. Once you get all of the problem items deleted you will need to go back and rebuild the deleted page elements.

This is all assuming that the problem is not an issue with the doc.

Troubleshooting is one of the hardest things to learn, in my opinion. Good luck!

How are you writing the postscript? And why? If your going to PDF Quark does a better job then going postscript through distiller, I've tested both methods extensively. 99% of the times the font warning will be meaningless so ignore it, but always check for font errors because they do happen. I've seen Arial replaced with Courier and even Pit-Stop thought it was Arial. In fact the one deficiency in version 6.5 JAWS export concerning gradients has been corrected in version 7. RAMPage actually suggested I upgrade to version 7, open all versions of Quark in it, and generate my PDF's using direct export from Quark. I've found my own fix however that doesn't require version 7 but thats another story...

We've had problems were the same art file is placed in Quark, but none of them separate the same way, one will actually be right, but the other three will be missing elements. Run it through a second time a different one will be right! Quark ain't no fun anymore.

Assuming that the art file is a vector element I would suggest opening it in Illustrator and saving it backwards to older CS, if it is CS2 or 3, or 10 if it is CS. At one point I had to save a piece of art back to Illustrator 5 to get it to work correctly. It was big and ugly but it did rip.
