Joe..wasn't my intention to imply you were refusing QX7 files...

You have me curious though...You're using Nexus, but I do have experience with PCC, I'm not understanding at all why you must place these PDF's into Quark in the first place. Can you not just print straight from Acrobat or drop the file in a hot folder or even queue them up at the RIP?

It's actually not me but a customer of mine. He publishes a newspaper monthly and a lot of the ads he receives are PDF's...many with transparency. He has to place them on the pages of his newspaper. Plus, it's not just him, we have other customers that are having the same problems. At present he sends the jobs to us and we have to make it work. Problem is...he doesn't like paying for our additional work. I'd love for him just to be able to place all of his page elements on his pages and make a PDF for me but he can't since he can't place many of the files he receives from his clients.

I guess I haven't said this yet because I know Joe is and will make it work.

But.. I/we have a pretty big client who places PDFs into Quark.... I HAVE to open in Acrobat > Save as .ps > drop on Distiller as PDF 1.3 and update links in Quack and it works perfect 99.999% of the time. If I don't it will NOT RIP as it is supposed to,

Even still - as a "Major Player" in the pro page layout application game should be able to place and reliably output PDF. Period.

Pain in the ass..

Exactly Vee...that's my whole point. We prepress professionals have the tools and know how to make it work but Quarks majority of customers do not have the tools or the know how. I can keep fixing their jobs forever but they're going to get charged. If they were using InDesign they would not have to worry about it. Simple enough, huh?

To be fair though, I have customers using PageMaker that are having the same problems. The problem with Quark though is that it's customer base assume if they upgrade to Quark 7 everything is going to be okay...and it's not.
