Quark 6 colour changes

Imported FreeHand eps files (which print perfectly as CMYK from within FreeHand) output differently from within Quark6.1. For instance a 50% black tint in FreeHand will register only on the black plate when printed as a separation, this changes to a percent of Yellow, Magenta, Cyan and Black when output from Quark6.1, why and can this be overidden?

We are using Mac OSX 10.3.3

Do you have colour management enabled somehow?

I have seen a lot of problems with Freehand files version 10 and higher. Opening in Illustrator and resaving as an Illustrator .eps solved all my issues.

Haven't used Freehand for years.
Does default preference setting maybe include a colour management setting... Or can you work in 2 different modes (RGB vs CMYK) like in Illustrator?

I'd be careful opening Freehand files in Illustrator though... You never know what might happen to your text (and other objects and overprint settings etc).

Are you sure the object in Freehand isn't RGB?
I've seen RGB images appear only in K-plate during colour seps on many occassions.

I'll only do the Ai workaround if I have a customer printout to follow if not I printout a hard copy from Freehand before opening in Ai..
