Quark 7.2 - Text reflow

We have received Quark 7.2 files from a client who has multiple designers. Two of the designers are using Intel Macs. We have requested that they send us their fonts that they are using to create the files. When we open the client's Quark files, they are reflowing. The client has manually tracked alot of the text to fit to a desired effect. Some lines of text are tracked at -4, some -3, and some at 0. Where the text is "tight" to the text box is where we are seeing the reflow occur. This effects the entire file because the text boxes are linked. We have tried loading our fonts but get the same result. We have compared Xtensions & Preferences. They are the same between our Macs and their Macs.

Any ideas?

Are the H&J's the same, is your 'normal' style sheet , the same as theirs? Snap to baseline switched on?

When you say you hav e checked your prefs I assume you mean application prefs rather than settings

H&J's and style sheets are matching. Snap to baseline is on. I am not sure how that would effect the text flow.

Yes, I did mean application prefs, sorry about that.

Could this be how the Mac is using the TYPE 1 fonts? The client is not using OTFs or d.fonts.

If it's fonts, then you should make sure that it's a "Collect for output" that you're getting

You must check that the fonts you are using are the same as thiers, there will be difference between Type 1 and OTF

We are using the clients fonts. I will need to verify that they did a collect for output.

When the text box is widened by .01.... the text flows fine.

It just doesn't make sense........

...but oh so very familiar....
It's a PITA to pull out the boxes to fix the wraps, but it's better than starting the tracking adjustment game!
This is when it helps to have a client laser (or PDF equiv), but that's a different topic 8)

Well, I have finally found the solution.

I was able to get an Intel Mac and open the file with it. I loaded the customer's fonts and opend their Quark file. The text flow was fine. So, if anyone receives any Quark files that were generated by an Intel Mac, you are going to need to open them on an Intel Mac.

Thank you for all the input!!!

Likewise here, I can't see how hardware would make a difference. Any more info, this does seem very odd
