Placing Indesign 2 EPS Files

Anyone run into problems placing ID2 created EPS files into Quark 4?

I had a ID2 job come in a while back that I saved as EPS and placed into our DI setups within quark.

A few of the pages placed fine, but the majority wouldn't even place, got a end of file error.

these same EPS's would place just fine in Quark 5 or back into a new Indesign document.

I haven't been able to find a reason as to why some of the pages were OK and others had problems (Common fonts/graphics)..

In the end I just used Quark 5 for the job, but just has me curious now..

The reason some pages don't work is it contains complex design (ie, transparency). You have to either go with Indesign or Quark 5.

Yah! My teacher told me DO NOT put any transparent, or drop shadow in illustrator. If you want drop shadow or transparent, go to photoshop and save as tiff. It usually works in qurk or indesign. drop shadow in indesign is ok too i guess. At least last time i had the drop shadow in indesign and looks fine on the film.

Guess I'm not sure why the content of the file matters when placing it..doesn't quark just read the pict/tiff preview and place the data?

What we did was we created a postscrip file from ID, then distilled it, then EPSed the pages out as EPSes, then placed those in Quark. Quite a way, but it worked.

Pffftttt InDesign...

We've had InDesign eps's that were distilled by the customer and sent to us that wouldn't even make it through our workflow.

Of the few that did make it through and actually rip, many of the CMYK images came out grayscale. I don't know what the problem is with these things, we've just decided that we won't accept them, period.

Maybe in a couple of years this thing'll be ready for production use, but it's reliability's still a little shaky, in my opinion.
